Arsenal woes continue with defeat to Frankfurt at half-empty Emirates

Arsenal endured more misery as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday, adding more pressure onto manager Unai Emery.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring in the first half before Daichi Kamada scored two quick goals after the break.

There was a large section of empty seats in the ground and a group of Arsenal supporters unveiled "Emery Out" banners during the game.

Sources told ESPN after the match that Emery's position at Arsenal is now 'untenable,' but the manager preferred to focus on the positives when speaking to the media postmatch.

"I think we improved. In the first half we had control of the game and we were winning 1-0 but we created chances to score a second goal," he said.

"The first five or 10 minutes or so of the second half was positive, how we were playing.

"We lost control in 15 minutes of the second half and they scored two goals and then we couldn't change the result.

"The last 20 minutes we tried to come back but we didn't create in that moment a big opportunity to score."

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka started his first game for the club since he stormed off the pitch and taunted the home support in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace last month.

Xhaka received a mixed reception when his name was read out at the start of the game, while David Luiz had to be substituted in the first half through injury.
