Wolves drop points against dogged Brighton

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Premier League top-four ambitions stalled as they were held to a dismal 0-0 draw at home by struggling Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

Last week's win at Tottenham Hotspur fuelled confidence that Wolves could challenge for a Champions League spot but they were far from their best against a resolute Brighton side.

Brighton coach Graham Potter told the BBC: "It was important for us to keep a clean sheet. We took part in a game against a team with a lot of dangerous players, but we restricted them to not too many clear-cut chances.

"We did well. Defensively we're really pleased. It was a collective effort. With the quality they have they can put you in dangerous places.

"We took part in the game. We tried to play and attack when we could. We had opportunities, but it wasn't to be. We move forward really positively with a clean sheet - we hadn't had one for a while.

"All the games in this league are quite brutal. We just need to keep working, fighting and preparing for the next game."

With Adama Traore left on the bench until late on, Wolves's attacking flair was missing and Brighton hung on for what could be a precious point in their fight to avoid relegation.

Wolves, who could have gone level with fourth-placed Chelsea, almost nicked it late on when Leander Dendoncker blazed over the crossbar.

"We performed so well, like we wanted. It was a tough game against a very good team," Nuno Espirto Santo saod.

They were organised, but so were we. It was a game of few chances. We have to keep going.

"It's about where we came from. We started two or three years ago and we keep on building. It's about sustaining the level of performance. Today we managed to do it, but we have to keep on going."

Brighton's draw kept them two points above the bottom three while Wolves are fifth, two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
