Mbappe, Cavani score as PSG beat Sydney 3-0

Paris Saint-Germain finished their preseason preparations with a 3-0 win over Sydney FC in Suzhou, China, ahead of this weekend's Trophee des Champions in Shenzhen.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for the French champions with his third goal of this preseason after being teed up by Juan Bernat in a neat exchange 37 minutes in at the Olympic Sports Centre.

Edinson Cavani then doubled PSG's lead two minutes before the break with an opportunist finish after Pablo Sarabia and Julian Draxler had combined to force Andrew Redmayne into a save.

Sydney FC were forced to field a pair of teenagers in the backline with 19-year-old academy debutant Harry van der Saag and 18-year Joel King both starting.

Captain Alex Wilkinson, key midfielder Brandon O'Neill and full-back Michael Zullo were among those unavailable leaving the Sky Blues with a slim five-man bench after illness struck the squad following their arrival in China.

Milos Ninkovic thought he had given the A-League champions a shock lead on 36 minutes only for his close-range effort to be correctly ruled out for an earlier offside against Rhyan Grant. Sydney FC striker Adam Le Fondre seemed set to pull a goal back on the stroke of halftime, only to graze the outside of the post with only the goalkeeper to beat.

The Ligue 1 giants' coach Thomas Tuchel rang the changes at half-time but kept captain Kevin Trapp in goal and it was substitute Metehan Guclu who added a third in the dying moments after being set up by Colin Dagba.

Sydney rallied in the second half but were unable to find a way to breach PSG's defence -- even after the raft of half-time changes and Les Parisiens end their Chinese stay with one win and a penalty defeat to Inter Milan.

PSG will now return to Shezhen, where Neymar and Presnel Kimpembe stayed to continue their fitness work, ahead of their clash with Rennes for the first piece of domestic French silverware on Saturday.

Sydney FC, meanwhile, will return to commence their season next Wednesday with a home FFA Cup match against a Brisbane Roar side coached by former Liverpool superstar Robbie Fowler.
