Streaking Minnesota wins again, takes down FC Dallas

Mason Toye scored on a rebound in the 91st minute and Vito Mannone had six saves -- including one on a penalty kick in the eighth minute of stoppage time -- to lead Minnesota United to a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night in Saint Paul, Minn.

It was the fourth consecutive MLS win and seventh in all competitions for the Loons, who moved into third place in the Western Conference.

Toye's goal, his fourth of the season and third in two games, came when he booted in a rebound of a Jan Gregus shot from the left side of the goal.

FC Dallas, which lost for just the second time in seven MLS games, had a chance to tie it later in stoppage time when Mannone was ruled to have tripped Bryan Reynolds inside the right edge of the 18-yard box. Reto Ziegler then attempted the penalty kick but Mannone, who played for Arsenal in the Premier League from 2006-13, made a diving save on the shot near the left post.

It was the sixth shutout in 20 career MLS games for Mannone. Jesse Gonzalez stopped three shots for FC Dallas.

FC Dallas, playing its first match since a 2-0 victory over D.C. United on July 4, controlled the ball for 57 percent in a scoreless first half against a Minnesota United squad playing its seventh match in 26 days and fifth in 15 days.

Both teams attempted seven shots had several scoring chances in the opening half but both goaltenders were up to the task.

Mannone made a diving save on Dominique Badji's left-footed shot from the middle of the box in the third box and also deflected Michael Barrios' breakaway shot from the right side of the box with his head in the 20th minute.

Minnesota's best scoring try came in the sixth minute when Darwin Quintero got the ball at the middle of the top of the six-yard box but his left-footed shot was blocked by defender Reggie Cannon.

Mannone came up with another big save in the 65th minute when he punched away a straight-on right-footed laser shot from outside the box by Bryan Acosta.
