Revs rout Orlando, run unbeaten streak to 11

Gustavo Bou scored his second goal since his arrival in MLS earlier this month, Carles Gil had his team-leading eighth goal and an assist, and the New England Revolution defeated Orlando City SC 4-1 for their third straight victory on Saturday night.

Cristian Penilla and Diego Fagundez also scored at Gillette Stadium for New England (9-8-6, 33 points), which owns the league's longest active unbeaten run at 11 matches, all coming since former coach Brad Friedel was dismissed in May.

That includes a 6-0-2 record once former U.S. national team coach Bruce Arena took the reins to start June, helping the Revs climb above the playoff line.

Beginning the night seventh in the Eastern Conference, New England scored four goals for a second time in three games and came within 13 minutes of preserving three consecutive shutouts.

Tesho Akindele scored a late consolation for Orlando (7-11-5, 26 points), which conceded four goals for the first time this season while losing its first back-to-back matches since dropping three in a row from May 4-15.

Bou sent the Revolution in front in the third minute, giving him a goal or assist in all three games he's played since the Argentine was signed from Mexican team Club Tijuana.

With the ball on the left flank, he cut inside, backheeled a pass to Edgar Castillo, and then continued his run into the penalty area. Castillo returned the ball back to Bou, who calmly slotted a right-footed finish past Brian Rowe and inside the far post.

Bou should've had his third goal of the season -- and second of the night -- nine minutes later, when he ran onto Penilla's through ball, but curled his shot wide of the far post with only Rowe to beat.

Instead, Penilla doubled the lead himself two minutes after halftime. Brandon Bye beat his defender on the right flank and then sent in a low cross that was dummied by two Revs attackers on its way to Penilla, who hammered in a strong finish.

Gil converted from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 in the 60th minute, then provided the pass before Fagundez struck from distance to make it 4-0 in the 75th.
