Altidore salvages point for Toronto against Columbus

Jozy Altidore scored in the 90th minute to rally visiting Toronto FC to a 2-2 tie against the Columbus Crew on Saturday.

Altidore got between Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful to head a cross from the right by Auro for his 10th goal of the season and 70th in Major League Soccer.

David Accam gave the Crew (7-14-6, 27 points) a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute. Pedro Santos also scored for the Crew, who are 2-0-4 in their past six games with three straight ties.

Toronto (9-10-7, 34 points) has tied its past two matches.

Accam entered in the 80th minute and used his fresh legs to sprint down the right side after a pass from Afful. Accam got his sixth goal, 40th in his MLS career, with a shot that goalkeeper Quentin Westberg got a hand on but could not slow down.

Toronto managed to go ahead 1-0 before the break. The Reds had three shots but Jonathan Osorio's fourth goal of the season was the only one on target in the first half.

A Crew turnover in their final third put Altidore on the ball and he found Osorio unmarked in the middle. After several dribbles, Osorio struck a low bender to the left corner that went past outstretched Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room.

Osorio hadn't scored since May 4 at Orlando City.

Santos got the equalizer three minutes into the second half. He took a long overhead ball from Wil Trapp in stride on the left side of the box and one-timed a left-footed shot.

Santos is tied with Gyasi Zardes for the team lead with nine goals this season. Santos had one goal in his prior 39 games.

Osorio was denied the go-ahead goal in the 63rd when his shot from distance was snared by Room.

The Crew play Wednesday at New York City FC. Toronto hosts Montreal on Aug. 24.
