Martin Terrier helps Lyon recover to beat Benfica in ICC

Lyon picked up a win in their first game in the International Champions Cup, defeating Benfica 3-2 despite earlier wasting a two-goal lead.

Benfica had the better of the early chances as Eduardo Salvio and Andre Almeida both struck the woodwork, though Lyon's Memphis Depay forced a good save from Odisseas Vlachodimos.

And it was the French side who found the breakthrough on 41 minutes when Marcelo headed home from a Memphis corner.

There was time before the break to add a second goal through Bertrand Traore, who cut inside on a counter-attack and curled a low shot to the far post.

Benfica responded in the second half, however, as Salvio played in Pizzi with a sublime pass for their first goal.

The Portuguese club were level within five minutes as Lyon's Marcelo stretched to intercept a cross but only redirected it into his own net.

But Lyon had the last laugh as 21-year-old Martin Terrier found the winner in the 83rd minute by stepping in front of his marker to poke in a cut-back cross from Maxwel Cornet.

Lyon will face Inter Milan next in the ICC on Saturday in Italy, before moving on to London to face Chelsea next Tuesday.

Benfica concluded their preseason tournament after beating Borussia Dortmund on penalties but falling to Juventus from the spot.
