Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker fire Manchester City past Newcastle

Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker each scored as Manchester City defeated Newcastle United 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

City, who have not lost a Premier League game to Newcastle since September 2005, opened the scoring in the seventh minute thanks to Sterling's second goal of the season.

Left-back Benjamin Mendy intercepted a pass from Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles and turned back to find Sterling, who finished from 16 yards out after curling a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

United States international DeAndre Yedlin pulled one back in the 30th minute with his first Premier League goal, becoming the 21st American player to score in the competition.

Yedlin, who joined Newcastle prior to the 2016-17 season, gathered a cross from Salomon Rondon on the right and charged past John Stones to put one home.

But Walker broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute by rifling shot from 25 yards out after Sterling dribbled into the area and left it for Sergio Aguero, who instead chose to set up his teammate.

Gabriel Jesus nearly extended the lead five minutes later, but his attempt was ruled offside.

Aguero, who scored eight goals in City's last two home games against Newcastle, was held silent on Saturday.
