Guingamp lose again in 2-1 defeat by Amiens

A late goal from Colombian striker Stiven Mendoza gave Amiens a 2-1 victory over bottom-club Guingamp on a day of depleted French league action on Saturday.

Only two of six scheduled matches took place after authorities earlier in the week postponed games due to planned protests against increases in fuel tax and rising living costs.

League leaders Paris St Germain's game against Montpellier was one of the casualties, as was Friday night's south coast derby between Monaco and Nice.

Two games are scheduled to go ahead on Sunday.

In the games that did happen bottom club Guingamp were powerless to prevent their winless run increasing to nine games with a home defeat by fellow strugglers Amiens.

Eddy Gnahore gave Amiens the lead after 63 minutes but although Etienne Didot's reply 10 minutes later gave the home side a glimmer of hope Mendoza's winner seven minutes from time gave the visitors all three points.

The win, Amiens first in four games, lifted them to fourth from bottom, three points above AS Monaco and Caen, the clubs immediately below them, and eight clear of Guingamp.

Dijon, who have the same number of points as Amiens, went down 2-0 away to Stade Rennais in the day's other game.

Goals midway through the second half from substitute Benjamin Bourigeaud and right on the final whistle from Hatem Ben Arfa were enough to secure the win.

Their second win in a row takes them into the top half of the table for the first time since September.
