Teal Bunbury winner leads New England Revolution past New York Red Bulls

Teal Bunbury assisted on an equalizer and finished on the game-winner, leading the New England Revolution to a 2-1 win over the visiting New York Red Bulls on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.

With the win, the Revolution tied the Red Bulls for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 22 points.

After the Revs gave up an early goal to New York star Bradley Wright-Phillips, New England got a goal from Diego Fagundez one minute into first-half stoppage time, and Bunbury scored the winner off a perfect cross from Cristian Penilla in the 78th minute.

Wright-Phillips scored his ninth goal of the season. In the eighth minute, Sean Davis sent a seemingly innocuous cross into the top of a crowded Revolution box. Wright-Phillips slithered his way into a tiny open space and beautifully redirected a header inside the far post to give the Red Bulls an early 1-0 lead.

New York maintained the lead until the first minute of stoppage time before halftime. The Revs worked the ball from left to right across the top of the Red Bulls' box. Krisztian Nemeth connected with Bunbury, who quickly dumped it over to Fagundez, who buried a right-footer to send the game into intermission tied 1-1.

New York veteran goalkeeper Luis Robles missed his third straight game dealing with a knee injury. Ryan Meara started in goal and finished with four saves.

New England keeper Matt Turner had three saves for the Revolution.

New England visits Louisville on Tuesday in open play before returning to MLS action at the Chicago Fire on June 9.

The Red Bulls return home to host crosstown rival New York City FC on Wednesday.
