Seattle Sounders stun Minnesota United in stoppage time for 2-1 win

Nicolas Lodeiro and Will Bruin scored in second-half stoppage time as the Seattle Sounders rallied to defeat host Minnesota United FC 2-1 Saturday night.

The Sounders extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches -- including four wins in a row -- and moved past the Loons in the Western Conference playoff race.

Lodeiro tied the score on a penalty kick in the first minute of stoppage time after Minnesota's Francisco Calvo was called for a handball in the box. Goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth guessed correctly on Lodeiro's kick, but the shot found the lower right corner of the net.

Bruin scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the seventh minute of stoppage time for the winner. Kelvin Leerdam's cross into the middle of the field was headed on by Raul Ruidiaz, finding Bruin alone at the top of the penalty area. He chipped the ball over Shuttleworth from about 12 yards out.

Darwin Quintero scored in the first half for Minnesota, which was attempting to beat Seattle for the first time in four all-time meetings.

The Sounders dominated the second half. Seattle pleaded for a penalty kick in the 58th minute after Leerdam's 18-yard shot was deflected out of bounds by Calvo. The Sounders claimed the ball went off Calvo's left arm, but after video review, it was called a corner kick.

Ruidiaz took a pass from Lodeiro and found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, but Ruidiaz was ruled offside.

Quintero's goal in the 19th minute came off a brilliant individual effort. He was about 15 yards out on the right side with his back to the goal, took a pass from Miguel Ibarra. Quintero spun and shrugged off Sounders midfielder Harry Shipp, only to face Chad Marshall, a three-time MLS Defender of the Year.

Quintero made a quick move to his right and pulled the ball back to his left foot, creating a small shooting lane. His low shot from about 10 yards out eluded diving Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei and found its way just inside the far post.

It was Quintero's team-leading 10th goal of the season. Nine of those have come at TCF Bank Stadium, where the Loons had their four-match winning streak snapped.
