Philadelphia Union, Orlando City match late goals in 2-2 tie

Scott Sutter scored at the start of stoppage time Saturday, helping Orlando City to a 2-2 tie with Philadelphia, while ending the Union's four-match MLS win streak.

Philadelphia had just taken the lead on a goal from Fabrice-Jean Picault in the 88th minute, but the Lions answered quickly. Sutter's goal was his third of the season, while Picault scored for the seventh time.

Despite earning a point, Orlando City (7-16-3, 24 points) remains winless over its last seven matches, but does have a pair of ties over its last four contests. The Lions are just 1-6-2 under new head coach James O'Connor.

Cory Burke scored a first-half equalizer for Philadelphia in the 32nd minute, his team-leading eighth goal, as he pushed his header past Lions goalkeeper Joe Bendik. Borek Dockal set up the goal with a right-footed cross, then departed the match eight minutes later because of an injury.

The Union (12-11-4, 40 points) is still 5-1-1 over its last seven matches to strengthen its playoff chances in the Eastern Conference.

Orlando City no longer is in sole possession of last place in the Eastern Conference, moving into a tie with the Chicago Fire for 10th place at 24 points.

Orlando City took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on a header from Dom Dwyer, his team-leading 12th goal of the season. The score came off a free kick from Yoshimar Yotun, who sent in a ball from just outside the right side of the penalty area.

Yotun's assist was his 10th of the season, matching the club record for a single season set by Kaka. It was just the fifth time all season Orlando City was able to score the first goal of a match.

Orlando City nearly took a two-goal lead in the 24th minute, but Cristian Higuita's shot from a sharp angle crossed through the goal mouth and rebounded off the left post.

Picault nearly scored a goal-ahead goal in the 36th minute, but his shot hit off the crossbar. As the Union moves to secure a postseason spot, six of the final seven teams on its schedule currently are playoff eligible.
