Michy Batshuayi continues hot form as Dortmund rally to win late

Michy Batshuayi scored twice, including a late winner, to rally Borussia Dortmund to a 3-2 win over Atalanta in their opening game of the Europe League knockout stage on Tuesday.

Andre Schurrle put Dortmund ahead on the half-hour but Josip Ilicic scored twice for the visitors in a five-minute span early in the second half.

But Chelsea loanee Batshuayi continued his hot start for his new club by scoring a pair of goals to give Dortmund the advantage ahead of the second leg in Italy.

Dortmund had the better chances early, as Marco Reus shot inches wide on a counter-attack and Schurrle's shot deflected off the outside of the post.

Christian Pulisic then missed a chance in the six-yard box when he couldn't connect with Reus' pass, but Schurrle found the breakthrough on a counter-attack after controlling Lukasz Piszczek's pass into the box.

But Atalanta came out strong after the break, and Ilicic had time to control a long cross to the opposite side of the box before equalising.

And five minutes later, Ilicic was in the right spot to turn in Atalanta's second after Roman Burki could only parry Bryan Cristante's shot into his path.

However, Dortmund were back level in the 66th minute when Batshuayi received the pass 20 yards from goal, turned and fired a shot into the net.

And the winner came in the 91st minute as Batshuayi again combined with Mario Gotze, and scored his fifth goal in three games at Dortmund.
