Newport continue good form at Grimsby

Newport showed no FA Cup hangover after their win over Leeds as they beat Grimsby 2-1 on their return to Sky Bet League Two action. Robbie Willmott's first-half strike and Frank Nouble's deflected effort moved the Welsh side two points off the play-offs, while Jamille Matt gave Grimsby some hope late on before being sent off.The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute when Scot Bennett laid the ball into the path of Willmott, who struck from the edge of the penalty area to beat Jake Kean at his near post.Grimsby almost found themselves level 10 minutes into the second half when Scott Vernon's volley forced Joe Day into a great save, and it proved to be vital as Newport raced up the other end and Nouble's effort deflected in off Karleigh Osborne.Matt though gave Grimsby some hope as he pulled one back 10 minutes from time, but their hopes were extinguished when the striker was shown a straight red for an elbow on Mickey Demetriou.
