Newport see off Swindon to end long wait for home win

Newport secured their first home win since January as goals from Padraig Amond and Ben Tozer dealt a blow to the play-off hopes of 10-man Swindon. The visitors got a goal back through Paul Mullin but saw centre-half Rollin Menayese receive two second-half yellow cards which ended their comeback hopes. Newport took control after a scrappy opening with two goals before the break. Amond opened the scoring in stunning fashion on 15 minutes, controlling a long ball from captain David Pipe in the box and then lifting a superb volley into the top corner. Tozer had earlier put a shot over but the former Swindon man made amends by flicking Ben White's cross into the back of the net with a delicate header in the 35th minute.Swindon made two changes for the start of the second half and both substitutes made an immediate impact. Mullin worked Joe Day and Donal McDermott saw a 25-yard effort rebound off the crossbar before he laid on a cross which Mullin headed home on 62 minutes. But that was as good as it got for the Robins as Menayese's second booking followed a clash with Matty Dolan and Tozer hit the post from 45 yards with Swindon goalkeeper Stuart Moore at the other end of the field in search of an equaliser.
