Alfie May breaks scoring drought as Doncaster's winning run continues

Alfie May's first goal since late September sealed a third straight victory for Doncaster as they beat Rochdale 2-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium.Ben Whiteman also struck early on as Darren Ferguson's side moved into 10th spot as their Festive crusade showed no sign of slowing down.Rovers took the lead inside four minutes via a quality Whiteman finish from the edge of the box. John Marquis was the instigator, cutting the ball back from the byline for May to lay off to Whiteman, who thumped his effort into the top corner.Andrew Cannon wasted a glorious chance for Rochdale, prodding Ian Henderson's sublime cross on to the bar and over from just a yard out.Rovers immediately punished their visitors by going down the other end and doubling their lead after 27 minutes, as May's shot took a wicked deflection off Kgosi Ntlhe and looped over Josh Lillis into the net.Rovers keeper Ian Lawlor superbly kept out Henderson's effort after the break, and then denied Cannon with his legs, before Henderson shot wide with just the stopper to beat as the hosts sat on their lead.
