Jordan Morris nets late winner as U.S. seals Gold Cup vs. Jamaica

Jordan Morris scored in the 88th minute to give United States a 2-1 win over Jamaica in the Gold Cup final on Wednesday night.

The win marks the sixth time that United States has won the Gold Cup, trailing only Mexico's seven titles in the CONCACAF competition.

The game started slowly but things began to heat up when a 20th minute Jozy Altidore shot was blocked by Jamaica's Andre Blake, who was injured while smothering the rebound attempt by Kellyn Acosta.

Blake -- Jamaica's star performer throughout its run to the Cold Cup final -- was on the ground for five minutes before being replaced by backup goalkeeper Dwayne Miller.

And Altidore scored the opener for the U.S. just before half-time, curling a lovely free kick around the Jamaica wall and off the fingertips of Miller to put the U.S. up 1-0 at the break.

Jamaica got off to the perfect start in the second half when Je-Vaughn Watson beat Jordan Morris to a Kemar Lawrence corner kick at the back post to level the score at 1-1.

Chasing a goal, Bruce Arena brought Clint Dempsey on in the 55th minute and the Seattle Sounders forward rattled the post soon after before nearly scoring on a header that Miller did well to collect.

With time running out, a Gyasi Zardes cross fell to Morris and he smashed home his shot from 12 yards away to give the Americans the win.

The U.S. extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games (9-0-5) under Bruce Arena, who became the first coach to win three Gold Cup titles.

U.S. captain Michael Bradley earned the Golden Ball at the tournament's top player.
