El Salvador's first-half double enough to see off Curacao

El Salvador eased past Curacao 2-0 in their second match of Group C play at the 2017 Gold Cup in Denver, Colorado on Thursday night.

Gerson Mayen finished off a nice piece of interplay from the Salvadorans, firing past Eloy Room from a Rodolfo Zelaya assist to make it 1-0 in the 21st minute.

Three minutes later, Zelaya got on the scoresheet after receiving a perfect ball over the top of the Curacao defense from Nelson Bonilla and powering a low, line drive into the back of the net for El Salvador's second.

Curacao had a chance to claw a goal back from the penalty spot after Darwin Ceren handled in the area, but Derby Carrillo guessed the right way on Gevaro Nepomuceno's attempt from 12 yards and smothered it to keep the score 2-0.

El Salvador stayed on the front foot throughout most of the second half and saw numerous chances go begging as the team saw out the win to earn its first points of the tournament after losing 3-1 to Mexico on Sunday.
