Jonatan Soriano brace fuels Beijing Guoan to fourth straight win

Beijing Guoan's revival under new coach Roger Schmidt continued on Friday night as the capital club notched up a fourth straight win since the German took over at the helm at the start of July.

Jonatan Soriano scored twice to continue his renaissance under his former RB Salzburg coach with Beijing moving up to fourth in the standings, just a point behind third placed Tianjin Quanjian.

Soriano claimed his ninth of the season a minute before half-time when he stabbed the ball home from level with the penalty spot.

And he claimed his side's second -- and his seventh goal in just four games under Schmidt -- 14 minutes after the restart from the penalty spot, sending goalkeeper Wu Yan the wrong way after Gu Cao had fouled Ba Dun in the area.

"If we look at his statistics, we can see that his performance was very, very special," said Schmidt of the Spanish striker.

"The team's scoring ability is very, very strong but, as I have said before, how you evaluate a player is not only based on how many goals he scored, but in his contribution to the team.

"Tonight, Soriano's performance was also good and he contributed fully to the team."

The win keeps Beijing in contention for a place in next season's Asian Champions League, with the first three in the standings securing places in the continental club championship.
