Giuseppe Rossi nets hat trick to lead Celta Vigo over Las Palmas

Giuseppe Rossi was back to his best with a La Liga hat trick as Celta Vigo claimed a 3-1 home victory over mid-table rivals Las Palmas.

Quique Setien's visitors were unfortunate to be two goals adrift after an eventful first half at the Estadio de Balaidos.

But Jozabed had already hit the bar for Celta when Rossi accepted a gift in the 12th minute, after Pedro Bigas presented the ball to him one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

David Simon thought he had equalised with a brilliant goal, only to be ruled controversially offside, and Vicente Gomez also hit the bar for Las Palmas four minutes from half-time.

In between, however, the New Jersey-born Rossi had made it 2-0 -- following up after Raul Lizoain parried Iago Aspas' shot.

Before the hour, the 30-year-old on-loan Fiorentina striker -- who had scored just once in 15 league matches this season - made it three on the night after another defensive mistake.

Bigas reduced the arrears with a close-range overhead kick in the 80th minute. But Jonathan Viera missed another late chance for Las Palmas as Celta moved up a place above Alaves into 10th.
