Mainz brought a run of four games without a win to an end with a 2-0 victory over Augsburg at the Coface Arena to climb to ninth place in the Bundesliga.

Augsburg made the brighter start and Dong-Won Ji saw his shot blocked before his header set up Raul Bobadilla but his effort was turned away by Jonas Lossl.

Daniel Baier saw another effort saved by Lossl before the hosts went ahead in the 31st minute on the break when Jhon Cordoba's header found Levin Oztunali and he headed past Marwin Hitz.

Cordoba fired narrowly wide on the stroke of half-time but Jairo Samperio made the points safe in the 62nd minute from the penalty spot after Hitz had brought down Cordoba.

Konstantinos Stafylidis then saw a late effort tipped around the post by Lossl as Augsburg searched for a way back into the game.
