Hartlepool relegated despite denying Doncaster title

Hartlepool were relegated from the Football League despite a remarkable 2-1 win that denied Doncaster the title.
It appeared Pools were going to incredibly escape the drop when Devante Rodney hit his first two professional goals in the final 20 minutes to overshadow Andy Williams' opener.
But Mark O'Brien netted an 89th-minute winner for Newport against Notts County as the Welsh side sent Hartlepool out of the Football League for the first time in their 109-year history.
Rovers were quick out of the blocks and took the lead as Williams capitalised on a scramble in the area and poked home. The linesman initially raised the flag, only to be overruled by referee Mark Brown who spotted the ball had come off a Hartlepool player.
But Pools battled away and found a leveller with 16 minutes remaining when Rodney slotted home after Padraig Amond's effort was saved.
Better was to come seven minutes from time as a long ball freed Amond, who crossed for Rodney and the striker showed remarkable composure to control and slot home.
Fans were on the pitch at that stage believing the job was done, only for O'Brien's cruel late intervention to seal Hartlepool's fate.
