Silva strike completes Monaco rally in 2-2 draw with Guingamp

Monaco's Ligue 1 season got off to a disappointing start as they were forced to come back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Guingamp at the Stade Louis II.

First-half goals from Moustapha Diallo and Sloan Privat seemingly left the hosts with a mountain to climb at the break.

But a second-half Fabinho Lemar penalty and a late Bernardo Silva strike saved the hosts from a disastrous start to their league campaign, but was still short of the victory they had probably been targeting at kick-off.

It was Monaco who went closest during the opening exchanges but Guido Carrillo failed to capitalise on Nabil Dirar's teasing delivery before their night took a turn for the worse.

Jimmy Briand picked out Diallo from the right and the Senegalese midfielder took one touch before dispatching a wonderful volley beyond Danijel Subasic into the top corner.

And a stunned Monaco fell even further behind when, with eight minutes left until the break, Marcus Coco and Lucas Devaux combined well before the latter's perfectly-timed delivery was headed home at the back post by summer signing Privat.

Leonardo Jardim's side attempted to reverse their fortunes after the break but new recruit Benjamin Mendy fired over from distance just after the break, before Guingamp goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson did well to keep out Silva's effort from just inside the area.

Kamil Glik went close to reducing the deficit with a header from Thomas Lemar's corner before Monaco were awarded a penalty after Silva was brought down by Ludovic Blas.

Fabinho kept his nerve to convert from 12 yards and hand the hosts a lifeline as Monaco stepped up their efforts.

Djibril Sidibe went close with a direct free kick soon after before the Monegasque side levelled late on when an unselfish Dirar teed up Silva with just over five minutes to play.
