Fenerbahce secure safe Europa League passage against Lokomotiv Moscow

Fenerbahce progressed past Lokomotiv Moscow in the Europa League following a 1-1 draw in the second leg in the Russian capital.

Holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, Fener fell behind to Aleksandr Samedov's goal on the stroke of half-time, but Lokomotiv were not able to find a second themselves and Mehmet Topal's late header gave the visitors a comfortable final few moments.

The home side were unfortunate that Alan Kasaev's first-half goal was ruled out for offside when he looked level, yet they did lead through Samedov, who finished after Fabiano had pushed Taras Mikhalik's shot into his path.

Robin van Persie almost headed in an away goal and Topal did just that with seven minutes to go with a looping near-post flick from a corner to make it 3-1 on aggregate.
