Cristiano Ronaldo guides Portugal past Hungary with two goals

Cristiano Ronaldo teamed up with rising talent Andre Silva to score twice and lead Portugal past Hungary 3-0 in World Cup qualifying on Saturday.

Silva, in the midst of a breakout season for Porto, opened the scoring on 32 minutes. Ronaldo's run through the middle found Raphael Guerreiro on the left of the box, whose cross found an unmarked Silva at the goal mouth to tap in.

Ronaldo then collected his first of the night four minutes later. The Real Madrid star pounced onto a back-heeled pass from Silva outside of the box and lashed an unstoppable left-footed shot past Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi from 20 yards out.

And he completed his brace five minutes after the hour mark, expertly curling a free kick around Gulacsi before skipping inside the far post from a difficult angle on the left.

Ronaldo's nine goals leads scoring in UEFA qualifying, followed by Poland's Robert Lewandowski with seven.

With 70 career goals in 137 appearances for Portugal, Ronaldo moved to fourth on Europe's all-time scorers list. He trails only Miroslav Klose (71), Sandor Kocsis (75) and Ferenc Puskas (84).

Portugal still trail Group B leaders by three points but strengthened their hold on second place, opening a five-point gap over Hungary.
