KANSAS CITY, Kansas -- Duckens Nazon scored the only goal and Haiti took a big step toward advancing from the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time with a 1-0 victory over Honduras on Monday night.

The win was the first for Haiti over Honduras since 2007.

Nazon scored his second goal of the tournament in the 14th minute when he slid a shot past Honduras goalkeeper Donis Escober, who had badly misplayed the attempt.

Honduras had chances to score the equalizer in the second half, including Erick Andino's shot from point-blank range that was wrapped up by Haitian goalkeeper Johny Placide in the 58th minute.

Honduras was eliminated from the group stage for the first time since 2003. It had reached the semifinals in four of the past five tournaments.
