Perth Glory secure A-League finals berth with Brisbane Roar win

Perth Glory have locked away an A-League finals berth with a 3-1 victory over Brisbane Roar at nib Stadium.

Roar were already guaranteed a third or fourth place finish and while Glory will need a miracle to break into the top four, they are secure in the finals.

Perth scored in the 35th minute from a Richard Garcia header after a Diego Castro free kick.

Roar levelled in the 57th minute when a Brett Holman shot deflected from Glory defender Lucian Goian.

Glory had the last say first with Andy Keogh's 11th goal of the season in the 67th minute. Then a strike from Rostyn Griffiths on the edge of the box sealed the win.

A concern for the Glory was Castro coming off in the 50th minute with a calf complaint.

Brisbane weren't going through the motions, but were down on manpower.

Thomas Broich, Avraam Papadopoulos, Michael Theo and Thomas Kristensen were all rested with an eye to Wednesday's home Asian Champions League match against Kashima Antlers.

Glory made much of the play in the first half and it was rewarded with a goal to the almost forgotten Garcia.

Making his second start of the season, he knocked on a header expertly from a delightful Castro free kick. That was Garcia's first goal of the season and fifth in three seasons with Glory.

Roar were doing some nice things on attack. That paid off with Holman's shot that deflected off Goian to score.

Perth answered with Keogh's goal in the 67th minute. He volleyed a terrific cross from Josh Risdon to put Glory ahead and the win was sealed with Griffith's strike nine minutes later.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe was happy with his team's performance and is confident Castro's calf will be fine for next week and the finals.

"It just showed that we felt a little bit of hunger out there and people wanted to actually win. They wanted to do it for the club which is really good and I'm pleased for the players," Lowe said.

"He [Castro] kind of just landed awkwardly and twisted. It was more precautionary just to make sure it didn't flare any worse. We'll just see how he goes in the next couple of days."

Roar coach John Aloisi thought his team could have got something from the game had they taken their chances.

"If you take those chances we created then it's a different game, but Perth took theirs which was a bit sloppy from our behalf defensively and they started to get on top of us again," he said.

"I'm disappointed because of the chances we created away from and usually when you do that you come away with something."

Perth finish their season at home next Sunday to Melbourne City needing to win by seven goals to move into the top four, while Brisbane back up from their Champions League clash by hosting Wellington on Sunday.
