Red Star Belgrade win appeal against UEFA stadium ban

Red Star Belgrade have won their appeal against UEFA's decision to make them play their next Europa League game behind closed doors as punishment for their fans

Last November, UEFA sanctioned the Serbian team with a stadium ban and a €50,000 fine as punishment for its fans showing support for war criminal Ratko Mladic.

Red Star supporters made chants and waved a banner in support of Mladic during their match against BATE Borisov in Belarus in November 2017.

The incident came only a few days after a UN war crimes tribunal convicted Mladic to life imprisonment for war crimes and genocide committed during the war in Bosnia between 1992 and 1995.

After accepting the appeal made by Red Star, UEFA has deferred the stadium ban, while placing the club under a probationary period of two years.

On top of that, the fine has also been reduced from €50,000 to €30,000.
