Karim Benzema agrees Real Madrid contract extension until 2021

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has agreed to extend his contract until 2021, the club have confirmed.

Benzema follows Isco and Dani Carvajal in committing his long-term future to the Liga and Champions League winners.

The France international, who is 29, joined Madrid from Lyon for €35 million in 2009 and has won 14 trophies at the Bernabeu.

His deal had been set to expire in 2019, and the new deal means he will remain at the Bernabeu past his 33rd birthday.

Reports in Spain say his net salary has been increased to more than €7.5 million a year and that the new arrangement includes a release clause of €1 billion.

In recent years, Benzema has been linked with clubs such as Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain but said recently: "As a forward, when you're at a club and you're a first-team regular, you don't need to look elsewhere -- especially when you're at a club like Real Madrid."
