Peru's Jefferson Farfan hospitalised with head trauma after collision in training

Peru striker Jefferson Farfan has been hospitalised with head trauma after a hard collision with a teammate during training on Saturday.

Farfan was participating in a drill when he collided with one of the team's goalkeepers and was taken to a local hospital for additional scans, according to a statement released by Peru's football association.

Team doctor Julian Segura reported that scans "have been favourable for the player" but that he remained hospitalised in order to monitor his condition.

Farfan, who plays for Lokomotiv Moscow, started Peru's Group C opener against Denmark but came on at half-time of the game against France.

Peru, appearing in the World Cup for the first time in 36 years, lost both of those games 1-0 and have been already knocked out ahead of their final game on Tuesday against Australia.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
