United States international Timothy Weah 'anxious' for more PSG minutes

Rising United States forward Timothy Weah has admitted that he is "anxious to play a bit more" for Paris Saint-Germain after breaking into their senior squad at the start of 2018.

Weah, 18, has played 34 minutes of Ligue 1 football so far this season and wants to add to that as he follows in the footsteps of his famous father, George Weah, playing at Parc des Princes.

However, Weah also rejected the idea that he only wanted to play for PSG because of his father's storied history in the French capital.

"My father's legacy counts but I have always been a fan of PSG, since Pauleta and Nene," Weah told PSG.fr. "I was always playing as these teams on video games.

"PSG was always a club that I wanted to join. I was ready to come and work hard for the team. When I joined the senior side, I was just shocked to find myself among footballing legends.

"Right now, I am a substitute, so I watch the matches. I am so proud to learn. However, I am also anxious to play a bit more and show what I can do."

Coach Unai Emery suggested Weah could get another chance to play in the Ligue 1 season finale against Caen on Saturday.

"Each training session is good for Timothy. Every single minute spent with the professionals is positive. He will perhaps get a bit of game time in Caen," Emery said.

Meanwhile, new coach Thomas Tuchel will be presented to the media at Parc des Princes on Sunday.

Speaking with beIN Sports France, former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he believes that the German coach has all the attributes to "seduce" the capital club's supporters.

"Thomas' vision of football is very attack-minded, which I love," said Wenger. "So, I think that on paper, he possesses all of the necessary ingredients to seduce the Parisien public, who will also become more and more demanding.

"True ambition was needed, and I think that Thomas' ideas are very avant-garde, which is good. It is a courageous choice. He will need to be supported. The impression today is that PSG are a bit of an ogre at this level. As a coach, you can get chewed up and spat back out very quickly there.

"Thomas has to be supported from the inside and a structure must be created around him to enable him to express his ideas."

Emery agreed with the longtime Arsenal boss, adding everything was in place to be successful at PSG.

"Thomas is a great coach. Here he will find lots of things that he needs to continue his development but also a club that wants to grow," Emery said. "The project is solid. The keys to further progress are patience and consistency."

One of Tuchel's first moves as coach could be to sign Gianluigi Buffon on a two-year deal, which sources have told ESPN FC has been offered to the legendary former Italy international as he prepares to leave long-time home Juventus.
