PARIS -- Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery says he believes his team were the victims of biased refereeing in their 3-1 Champions League defeat at Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Emery was unhappy with referee Gianluca Rocchi and his assistants, saying they should have disallowed Madrid's second goal, scored by Cristiano Ronaldo from a Marcelo assist.
But he added that he felt his side would still go through, with the second leg at Parc des Princes to come next month.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of the weekend game at Strasbourg, he said: "For the return leg, I would like to have the same referee that we had in Madrid and exactly the same criteria.
"By that I mean that there is an advantage for whoever is playing at home.
"What I am saying is not subjective. On Real's second goal, there was an offside that was not flagged up and whistled for.
"Conversely, I watched Lyon play against Villarreal and I found the refereeing to be quite balanced. There were favourable and unfavourable decisions for and against Lyon."
Emery said he had been encouraged by PSG's display at the Bernabeu, where they had taken a first-half lead.
"The team produced a good performance," he said. "Football can be like that, though. It is possible to outplay your opponent, but if you do not take your chances and the other team does then you end up losing.
"However, it was a good showing against the best team in the world. I am convinced that we can qualify.
"The result was negative but what happened on the pitch was satisfactory. When we were 1-0 up, we had the chance to make it 2-0. Then at 1-1 we could have gone 2-1 up but it did not happen like that -- we just needed to be more efficient."
Emery's PSG future is under growing scrutiny after the defeat in Madrid, with his contract expiring at the end of this season.
But asked whether he was thinking about his future, he said: "I am focusing my energies on what is happening at the moment -- nothing else matters."
PSG star Neymar came in for criticism after the loss at the Bernabeu, but his coach defended him and said: "Neymar did a lot of positive things.
"If he works on a few small details, and he will, he will show what a great player he is."
