Chandler poised for Frankfurt return

U.S. international Timothy Chandler is set to stay in the Bundesliga by moving to Eintracht Frankfurt from relegated Nuernberg, according to German media reports.

Frankfurt, where Chandler was born and where he began his career, are expected to trigger a one million euros release clause in his contract.

Speaking to the Nuernberger Zeitung, Nuernberg sporting director Martin Bader confirmed that Chandler had "informed us about talks with Frankfurt."

Should the transfer go through, he will replace Sebastian Jung, who is on his way to Wolfsburg.

"His stats come close to those of Sebastian Jung, and he's from our own stable. That speaks for him," Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Huebner told kicker.

The 24-year-old right-back, who suffered a knee injury in early February, has regained full fitness in time for the World Cup.

On Wednesday, he played at left-back for the second half of the USMNT's 2-0 win against Azerbaijan.
