New England Revolution defender Chris Tierney will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his knee, the club announced on Friday.

Tierney, 32, was injured just before halftime in Wednesday night's 1-1 draw with Atlanta United when he fell to the pitch without being touched.

The Revolution said he would have surgery in the next few weeks and would be sidelined for about nine months.

Tierney has spent his entire career with New England, appearing in 246 MLS games over 11 years.

Gabriel Somi came off the bench to replace Tierney at left-back for the Revs, who are sixth in the Eastern Conference with 19 points from 13 games.
