Nantes' Yassine El Ghanassy gets prison sentence for speeding

Yassine El Ghanassy has been given a six-month prison sentence after appearing in court for a speeding offence for the 15th time.

Belgium international El Ghanassy, who plays for French club Nantes, was given the jail term by a court in Bruges on Wednesday and was banned from driving for two years.

In June 2016, he was caught driving at 57 kilometres per hour in a 50kmh zone, and police discovered that he had already lost his licence and should have retaken his test to get it back.

El Ghanassy, who last appeared in Ligue 1 on Feb. 24, had seen police confiscate his car in October 2017 after he broke the speed limit, but had it returned to him on appeal.

The former Gent and Oostende midfielder, who had a short loan spell at West Bromwich Albion in 2012, can appeal against his sentence and told La Derniere Heure: "I won't go to prison."
