Injuries rule Dos Santos, Aquino, Damm out of Mexico squad

LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos and Tigres duo Javier Aquino and Jurgen Damm will not be joining up with Mexico's squad to face Iceland and Croatia due to injuries.

Dos Santos picked up a hamstring injury in a friendly for the Galaxy last Friday, according to a statement from the Mexican federation, with Chivas defender Oswaldo Alanis drafted in to replace him.

Dos Santos had started the season brightly for the Major League Soccer side and joins brother Giovani on the injury list. The elder Dos Santos brother is out for up to three weeks, also with a hamstring complaint.

Damm and Aquino both suffered unspecified injuries to their adductor muscles during Tigres' 0-0 draw against Chivas, but no replacements have been called in and both may be able to feature for El Tri in the second friendly on March 27 against Croatia in Dallas, depending on their recovery at Tigres.

The Mexico-based El Tri players will fly to San Jose from Mexico City on Monday ahead of next Friday's game against Iceland in Levi's Stadium, with the Europe-based contingent arriving directly from their clubs.
