Mexico's World Cup preparations firm with Scotland friendly confirmed

Mexico is set to play Scotland on June 2 in Estadio Azteca in El Tri's farewell match ahead of the World Cup in Russia.

The Scottish FA announced the game on Sunday, with the Mexican federation later confirming that an agreement has been reached. It'll be the first ever match between the two teams.

Mexico is expected to follow up the Scotland game with a friendly in the United States, followed by two more in Europe before heading to Russia for its World Cup opener against Germany on June 17 In Moscow.

Scotland, currently without a head coach, will face Peru in Lima on May 29 before heading to Mexico City to face El Tri's in preparation for the start of the UEFA Nations League in September.

Mexico kicks off 2018 against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Jan. 31 in San Antonio and will go on to face Iceland on March 23 in Santa Clara, Calif. and then another team -- rumored to be Croatia -- in Dallas, Texas on March 26.
