Tigres get Ismael Sosa from Pumas in Liga MX draft

The transfers of Argentina native players Ismael Sosa, Silvio Romero and Alfonso Arturo "Ponchito" Gonzalez were the main surprises on Wednesday in the Liga MX draft held in Cancun.

A total of 75 transactions were completed over 12 hours with about $53 million spent in all of the negotiations. The big winners of the night were clubs like Leon, who completed six moves, and defending champion Pachuca, who brought in talented Mexican players such as Raul Lopez from Chivas and Erick Aguirre from Monarcas Morelia.

Tigres bought Sosa's playing rights from Pumas, while Monterrey did the same with Atlas' Gonzalez. Club America bought rights to Romero from Chiapas.

As has been the case as of late, Monterrey's clubs have been aggressively signing players. Rayados are still scheduled to make other new signings in the coming days, while Tigres appear to be a club who could easily make up two equally competitive squads.

Argentine forward Romero scored a total of 18 goals for Chiapas in the 2015-16 season.

Jose Juan Vazquez and Marco Bueno will be Chivas' principal reinforcements for the upcoming season, while Queretaro added Colombian forward Andres Renteria and Argentine midfielder Neri Cardozo in order to improve their offense.

Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla said that this summer's draft had featured the fewest number of transactions in draft history. He also added that Mexico's national team players, who are participating in the Copa America Centenario, will have seven days after the event to orchestrate any further transfers.

Liga MX clubs will have until Aug. 31 to make any new additions to their squads. The new 10/8 Rule implemented a few weeks ago will open the door for a significant influx of foreign talent.
