Jesse Lingard: Romelu Lukaku can achieve greatness at Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku is only just getting started at Manchester United, according to Jesse Lingard.

Lukaku has scored 26 goals in his first season at Old Trafford following his £75 million summer move from Everton and needs just one more to make it his most prolific season as a professional, but Lingard insists there is more to come.

"Rom has come in and scored 20-plus goals in his first season," Lingard said. "He's still ever so young and the things he can achieve in his career don't bear thinking about.

"At the moment, he's doing well for us and that's what we need right now. If he can carry on scoring between now and the end of the season, that will help us."

Andy Cole knows better than most what it takes to score goals at United.

The striker scored 121 goals in eight seasons at Old Trafford and he believes Lukaku has shown he can handle the pressure of playing for such a big club.

"Lukaku has had a very good season," Cole told MUTV. "I think it has probably been a lot tougher than he would have thought and now he appreciates that you can't have a weekend off at Manchester United, which he could have done at his previous clubs Everton and West Bromwich Albion.

"Here, you can't afford to do that. But he has played the majority of games and that says a lot about him. He has not been injured and, for his first season, I think he has been top drawer."
