Manchester United believe they can win Champions League - Ashley Young

Manchester United believe they can win the Champions League this season, according to Ashley Young.

United restart their campaign with a last-16 first-leg clash with Sevilla in Spain on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho's team are not among the favourites to lift the trophy in May. But Young, 32, insists that does not matter.

He said: "You don't enter a competition not to win it.

"That's what we will be looking to do and take each game as it comes.

"The next one is against Sevilla. That's a tough away game like today, like Newcastle away. That's what the stadium is like. We just have to concentrate on ourselves."

United started a crucial week in their season with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield in the FA Cup.

Sevilla away and Chelsea at home in the Premier League are next up and Young accepts the next six days could have a huge bearing on how successful they are this season.

He added: "It's a massive week. We had to get ourselves back to winning ways after last weekend. We've got a tough game against Sevilla away and we've got to concentrate on that.

"We can't look too far ahead. Obviously, we know we have got Chelsea coming up and Sevilla is the next game and that's where our thoughts are."

United head to Spain having kept their 22nd clean sheet of the season against Huddersfield.

Despite criticism in the wake of the defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park, they have also got the Premier League's best defensive record, something Young has played his part in after becoming Mourinho's regular left-back.

He said: "I think a lot has been said about defenders and what not - a lot was said last week -- and it's one of them things. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

"Keep getting clean sheets and hopefully we can chip in with goals as well as the front boys."
