Man United's Paul Pogba misses Huddersfield game through illness

MANCHESTER -- Paul Pogba will miss Manchester United's FA Cup fifth-round tie at Huddersfield Town because of illness, the club announced on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho said at his news conference on Friday that the France midfielder would play at the Kirklees Stadium on Saturday.

But after falling ill overnight, Pogba has been replaced in the squad with 19-year-old midfielder Ethan Hamilton.

Soon after Pogba said on Twitter: "Gutted I won't be at Huddersfield but I need to get better. Come on United."

It follows a week of intense speculation that Mourinho and Pogba have fallen out over the 24-year-old's role in the United team.

There were even reports in France that Pogba regrets his move to Old Trafford.

Mourinho dismissed the claims on Friday as "big lies" and insisted there was no break-down in his relationship with the former Juventus midfielder.

United will hope Pogba will recover in time to face Sevilla in their Champions League round-of-16 first leg in Spain on Wednesday.

It will be the first time Hamilton has been included in the first-team squad. The Scottish midfielder was named on the bench at Huddersfield despite starting and playing 90 minutes for the United under-23s in their 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at Leigh Sports Village on Friday night.

Angel Gomes, 17, was also named among the substitutes, along with Eric Bailly, who has missed the last three months with an ankle injury.

David De Gea, Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia were all given the day off ahead of games against Sevilla and Chelsea next week.
