Manchester City midfielder David Silva thanked hospital staff after finally taking home his son, who was born prematurely in December.
Silva, 32, has split his time between England and Spain, where Mateo has been receiving hospital care.
But his son has finally been allowed home, and Silva thanked the hospital staff who looked over Mateo for the past six months on social media.
"We're finally going home!" Silva wrote. "We will be eternally grateful for the amazing team of the paediatric maternity and ICU units of the Hospital Casa de Salud for the professionalism and human treatment that have shown us these five long months. Just thank you!"

Silva missed City's title parade on Monday but sent a video holding Mateo and thanking teammates, fans, staff and manager Pep Guardiola for their understanding.
He has missed eight Premier League games since Christmas in order to be with his son and partner, Yessica Suarez Gonzalez.
"He's free to stay or leave," Guardiola said in January. "It depends. He wants to stay because he enjoys it but family is the most important thing in life.
"It doesn't matter if we drop a lot of points because he's not here. I'd never push him. Some days he will be here. Some he will be out. It depends how his family is."
