Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold happy to spend career at right-back

MANCHESTER, England - Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has told ESPN FC he would be happy to play at right-back for the rest of his career.

Alexander-Arnold came through the club's academy ranks as a midfielder and was used centrally by Jurgen Klopp in last season's home game against Stoke.

Academy coaches believed moulding him into a full-back would give him the best chance of a breakthrough, and the England international said he was happy to stay in the role he played in the Champions League final and at the World Cup.

"It's a position that I enjoy and somewhere I love playing," he said. "That's my position, and if it's that for the rest of my career then I'll be more than happy to do that.

"It's not something that I focus on. I just try and play where there manager puts me as well as possible.

"It's not important to me where I'm playing, just as long as the manager is happy and trusting me to go out on the pitch. That's all that really matters to me -- playing for the club."

Alexander-Arnold, who joined Liverpool at the age of six, has established himself as first-choice right-back ahead of Nathaniel Clyne. He has made 54 first-team appearances since making his debut in October 2016.

"I think I'm more comfortable than when I first came up as a shy, nervous lad," Alexander-Arnold said.

"But I think it's important to not get too comfortable because there's always people that want your position and someone who is hungry and wants to take it off you.

"I think the moment you get comfortable is the moment that people start gaining on you and start taking that position from you."
