Huddersfield boss Wagner has no plans to leave to return to Germany

David Wagner has said the time to return to Germany has not yet come as the Huddersfield Town coach has been linked with the job in the Hoffenheim dugout.

"The right moment to leave this wonderful club has not come yet," he told Suddeutsche Zeitung.

Having joined Huddersfield from Borussia Dortmund's reserves in 2015, Wagner took the The Terriers to Premier League this summer, and with half the season played has so far steered the club to a mid-table position.

The 46-year-old's work has not gone unnoticed in Germany where only last week Hoffenheim owner Dietmar Hopp said he could imagine Wagner replacing sought-after head coach Julian Nagelsmann, should the 30-year-old leave one day in the not-so-distant future.

"Indeed, there were a few options already to talk to Bundesliga clubs," said Wagner, who was also linked with the Wolfsburg job a year ago. "But it's all about timing, like always lin life.

"What has been created here at Huddersfield is too big, and the Premier League is too exciting."

Wagner believes he has already proven at Huddersfield that his managerial skills not only work at youth or second-team level, but also at a demanding senior team level.

And Wagner believes he can make the next step whenever he feels he is ready to accept a new challenge.

"Folks always ask if that's only possible at youth level, with a reserve team, with just one pro club? I am convinced that my approach can be a success everywhere," he said.
