Andre and Jordan Ayew are set to end their year-long absence from the Black Stars squad after Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah named the duo in the West Africans' Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia. The brothers are among 20 players called up for the game in Addis Ababa on November 18. They've not played for the national side since the 1-1 draw against Congo-Brazzaville in a World Cup qualifier in September 2017, having opted out of the return match. Captain Asamoah Gyan, who also hasn't played since the draw against the Congolese, has also been named in the squad despite playing just 49 minutes of action with Kayserispor in the Super Lig this season. Beyond the Ayews, Appiah has kept faith with a bulk of the squad he picked for the aborted AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone last month, with a few minor changes. Nicholas Opoku, whose own goal gifted Kenya victory at Kasarani in September, has been dropped, while Richmond Boakye misses out due to injury. Switzerland-based Majeed Ashimeru has been handed his maiden call-up after his fine form with St. Gallen. The Black Stars are third in qualifying Group F behind Kenya and Ethiopia who have played two games more. Ghana currently have three points from two matches, behind Ethiopia on four and Kenya on seven. It remains to be seen whether Ghana will replay the two aborted matches against Sierra Leone last month, which were postponed due to the SLFA's suspension.
