Collin Quaner is waiting on the Ghana Football Association to complete the process of his nationality switch so he can represent the Black Stars at international level, the Huddersfield Town striker tells KweséESPN.
The former Germany U-20 international is in coach Kwesi Appiah's plans after the two met on the coach's scouting mission to the United Kingdom in April.
Quaner has since met up with other officials and players during training sessions in Accra for two international friendly games against Japan and Iceland, and says he is keen to be part of the group.
"I can only hope everything will be as quick as possible", he told KweséESPN. "It is not in my hands because there left is nothing I can influence.
"I just make sure I will stay fit and, when I'm back in the UK, concentrate on the club and our goals and then we will see how everything will develop."
Quaner featured 26 times for the Terriers in the Premier League this season, contributing four assists.
"I've made it clear I would want to play for the Black Stars in future", the 26-year old added. "It takes some time to do all the work and what is necessary."
Quaner says he was surprised but grateful when Appiah got in touch, as he's long been a keen follower of the Black Stars.
"A lot of us with Ghanaian roots in Germany have kept in touch with home through football," said Quaner, whose father is Ghanaian. "I have followed the Black Stars since I was smaller, so to get the chance to also be part of the team maybe in future is an honour for me."
Despite Quaner's enthusiasm, the transition to the squad has been tricky for dual-nationality players in the past, some of whom have struggled to adjust to the Ghanaian national team setting.
"I am aware of these issues, but for me personally, I can just talk about myself and I can say I'm prepared for it," he continued. "I am someone who is quite humble and honest, so I won't have any problem getting into new environments or getting established really fast.
"I am sure in the future I will play for the Black Stars," he continued. "If I get chance and I will do anything to pay it back."
While he waits for his chance with the Black Stars, Quaner is also hopeful he can establish himself further after his first season in the Premier League with Huddersfield.
"I played 26 times so it has been a big step for me personally and for the club," the forward concluded, "I'm more than satisfied with our season and also my season because I have played a big role also maintaining us in the league.
"Of course, you set yourself new goals, so next season so the first step is to make sure I am fit and strong enough for everything.
"I want to start as many games as possible next season and help the club stay up again."
