Asante Kotoko appoint Paa Kwesi Fabin as Steve Polack successor

Asante Kotoko have turned to Paa Kwesi Fabin as the club's new head coach following the departure of Steve Polack.

"Asante Kotoko SC is pleased to announce the appointment of Samuel Kwesi Fabin as the new Head Coach of the Club," read a statement released on the club's official Twitter handle.

"Mr. Fabin is tasked with a duty to guide the Porcupines in the 2017/18 season while managing talents of the club for overall success."

Fabin was previously head coach of Ghana's U-17 team, and guided them to the final of the African U-17 Championships in Gabon and the quarter final of the U-17 World Cup in India.

He was previously at Kotoko between 2009 and 2012, and has also had stints with Inter Allies, Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions.

The Ghanaian giants confirmed Polack's departure on Friday, following the club's CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round exit at the hands of CARA Brazzaville.

The Porcupine Warriors missed three penalties in a bizarre first leg, but still won 1-0, only to fall to a 1-0 defeat in the return leg and drop out of the competition following a 7-6 shootout defeat.

Polack was a appointed in May 2017, and won the MTN FA Cup that same year following a 3-1 victory over Hearts of Oak, but failed to achieve success in either the Ghalca G8 or the Super Cup.

However, Kotoko's dismal performance in the Confederation Cup sealed his fate, with Polack confirming to KweséESPN before the match against CARA that the club were targeting continental success.

Kotoko are scheduled to face WAFA on March 4th in the opening weekend of the Ghana Premier League.
