Maritzburg sign Ghana international Richard Ofori

Ghana international goalkeeper Richard Ofori has signed for South African Premier Soccer League side Maritzburg United, the club announced on Thursday.

Ofori, who is the current number one for the Black Stars and played in recent friendlies against the USA and Mexico, has signed a three-year contract with the option for an extra season.

The 23-year-old had helped Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars to claim the country's domestic league title in 2016, and the year before was named Goalkeeper of the Season at the club.

He had been linked with African champions Mamelodi Sundowns in recent weeks, but instead has signed for mid-table Maritzburg who are coached by former striker Fadlu Davids.

Ofori was a member of the Black Stars squad that competed at the 2017 African Nations Cup in Gabon, but played only in the third-place play-off defeat to Burkina Faso.

His arrival at the club follows the decision to release Namibia international Virgil Vries at the end of last season.
