Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele says it is about time ex-footballers had more say in the running of the game at the highest level but has ruled himself out of an emerging race to replace Kwesi Nyantekyi.

Nyantekyi, the GFA president for the past twelve years has suggested he will step down when his current term expires in 2019 but Abedi, a former GFA vice president and three time African player of the year won't throw his hat into the race.

''I think Nyantakyi has done his best and if he has got the courage to say he will not compete in 2019, it is a good one,'' the three-time African Footballer of Year told the media. 'I think there are competent people in Ghana who can take over the position.

The early candidate around who will replace Nyantekyi has centred around current vice president George Afriyie, former vice president Fred Pappoe and GFA executive committee member Kurt Okraku but Abedi feels the next boss must be an ex player.

''We don't lack intelligent people. I am not interested though but I think we have good and knowledgeable people in the game who can take over.

''I think is high time we allow ex-Footballers to take over the football administration, and allow the boxers to also take over boxing," the Maestro said.
