RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner has claimed Leroy Sane can become Germany's version of Kylian Mbappe. Sane was voted PFA Players' Young Player of the Year last season following his performances as Manchester City won the Premier League with a record-breaking 100 points. However, he was left out of Joachim Low's World Cup squad and has failed to start a single league match so far this season for City. While Germany teammate Toni Kroos was critical of Sane's body language last week. However, Werner believes Sane can prove himself to be an important player for the four-time world champions in the future. "I've known him for a long time," Werner told Bild of Sane. "I played with him at the under-19 European Championships and at youth level for a long time "I always got along with him really well, never had any problems -- quite the opposite. He has always gone full throttle in matches. And it's no coincidence he was named Young Player of the Year in England. "Just like Mbappe, he can be a huge weapon with his pace and agility. I think he has what it takes to become a permanent fixture in the starting XI not only at Manchester City but also for us." Comparing Sane to Mbappe -- who was voted Young Player of the Tournament at the World Cup -- is no small thing for Wener, who holds the Frenchman in the highest regard. "He is just impressive, and that despite him being two, three years younger than me and I am already very young," Werner added. "When Messi and Ronaldo retire one day, he's certainly one filling the gap. "His potential is breathtaking. His pace and touch of the ball are unbelievable. You can only envy those who have him on their team." Sane was recalled to the Germany squad for the UEFA Nations League clash with France, but left the camp before Sunday's friendly with Peru to be at the birth of his daughter.
